Leftovers (recipes & tasting notes from last week)

I am inspired by so many food bloggers through their pictures and meticulous quests to make the prefect recipe. Some of my favorite food blogs include Smitten Kitchen, PW Cooks, The Kitchn and Joy the Baker (goodness, I’m just scratching the surface). Every Saturday I create a menu for the week based on all of the recipes I’ve found while crawling the web. Next time around I promise to have photos of the food, but some of these recipes are too good to share. Here’s what I cooked up last week:

SATURDAY: We had a dinner party with a couple of friends so we had a larger dinner than normal.

Serious Eats Momofuku Steak Ssam (Momofuku is a NYC restaurant, I have never eaten there but they have a team of chefs that have produced the most amazing recipes including Crack Pie and Ginger Scallion Noodles). For a side we had Kimchi Tofu Summer Rolls

Our friends brought beer that was too good to not mention. It was the Eclipse Barrel Aged Impreial Stout from Fifty Fifty Brewing Company in Truckee, CA. This beer was so rich with flavors of chocolate and vanilla bourbon, just based on the velvety texture it should have been our dessert!

SUNDAY: #too.many.leftovers

MONDAY: Thai Honey Baked Chicken butterflied and roasted in the oven with a quick salad of chopped up cucumbers & daikon tossed in an Asian vinaigrette (4 tbsp rice vinegar, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1/2 tsp salt) garnished with sesame seeds and chopped cilantro

TUESDAY: Ground Beef Tacos with a Jicama Salad (minus the orange)

WEDNESDAY: The most simple and amazing Griddled Polenta Cakes with Carmelized Onions, Goat Cheese & Honey (this dish was more satisfying than pizza . . . yes pizza) served with a side salad and balsamic vinaigrette.

THURSDAY: I used up our left over Honey Baked Chicken in Giao Trac’s Chinese Chicken Salad with Spicy Ginger Dressing.

FRIDAY: We joined some friends for dinner and experimented with their new outdoor pizza oven. We noshed on Layered Mediterranean Layer Dip and these adorable Mini Banana Splits and drank the perfect Old Fashioned.

What recipes did you try last week?
